!standard 1.1(01) 03-07-30 AC95-00063/01 !class confirmation 03-07-30 !status received no action 03-01-10 !subject Ada compilers !summary !appendix From: Linda Thomas Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 10:39 AM Since the Government is no longer mandating the use of Ada and programs have mostly migrated to other platforms, what happened to all the Ada software that the government purchased? The reason I am asking this question, we have a number of legacy systems and sometimes they ask that we purchase Ada products, such as an Ada compiler. Do inventories exist for Ada products? Thanks-- Linda Thomas Contracts Management Office PEO Enterprise Information Systems Department of Army **************************************************************** From: Marc A. Criley Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 12:40 PM Ada software projects and vendors have hardly become endanged species! There are several Ada vendors active in the marketplace, among them Ada Core Technologies, Aonix, DDC-I, Green Hills, RR software, and Rational. Please contact any of these vendors for information regarding the acquisition of the compilers, tools, and support necessary to support your customers. (For a list of vendors with links to their Websites, go to http://www.adapower.com/411/vendors.html.) **************************************************************** From: Marc A. Criley Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 1:07 PM Not to forget Irvine Compiler! **************************************************************** From: Tucker Taft Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 1:14 PM I presume you will get several answers. In fact there are still a significant number of projects using Ada (e.g JTF, International Space Station, NYC subway, Channel tunnel, many nuclear power systems, etc.). There are several companies still actively selling and supporting Ada compilers (for a variety of hosts and targets), including: AdaCore Technologies -- http://www.gnat.com Aonix -- http://www.aonix.com DDCI -- http://www.ddci.com Green Hills Systems -- http://www.ghs.com Irvine Compiler Corp -- http://www.irvine.com Rational (now part of IBM) -- http://www.rational.com RR Software -- http://www.rrsoftware.com SofCheck, Inc. (formerly Intermetrics/AverStar/AverCom) -- http://www.sofcheck.com There are a number of websites devoted to Ada, including the Ada Information Clearinghouse, sponsored by the Ada Resource Association, which may be your best starting place: http://www.adaic.org I hope this answers your questions. **************************************************************** From: Randy Brukardt Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 2:06 PM As the other people here have mentioned, Ada is not dead. See http://www.adaic.org and http://www.adapower.com for more information on the state of Ada. Anyway, this is the wrong forum for this question. This mailing list is for questions and proposals about the Ada standard itself. General questions on the usage of Ada aren't appropriate here; they should be directed to the team-ada mailing list (team-ada@acm.org, to which I've forwarded this message) or to the comp.lang.ada newsgroup. **************************************************************** From: Robert Dewar Sent: Tuesday, January 14, 2003 4:26 AM "programs have mostly migrated to other platforms" That's certainly not what we see. yes, there is some migration, but then there are completely new projects as well. ****************************************************************
